With that simple suncream bottle imitation, this masterpiece of parfumery, fools around big majority smelling it or buying it.
Thinking it's simple.
Far from that.
It's a serious fragrance.
It's not some sweet, candy, fruity box of 5 notes modern fragrance wanna-be.
It's a parfum with a big P.
It is a King hidden out of sight from the communist butchery.
I got the first bottle from my "parfumery" cousin. She gifted me a few fragrances, knowing how interested I am/was. She also gave me my first lipstick. It was light rich pink. Thick good quality German lipstick. I don't remember the brand, the package was golden with a black line. Smelling of bee wax. I still buy lipstick in that colour. I can't stop. Like I can't give up on Sun. That was more than 25 years ago. Still. always have Sun bottles. Around the house. Even tho I don't use this fragrance often, I never step millimetres away from thinking how great this perfume is. It's simply like Sun King and his name could easily be Sun King. I think that would fit better. The bottle should also change into a composed & inspired by the French Sun King with the Sun costume hat. Ever seen that costume? It's amazing! Ohh yes! This is the perfume he would wear. People with unbelievable character, intelligence, eccentricity and braveness are the only ones wearing this scent good. Rest? Don't try. This fragrance is an ultimate character, flattering, witty, arrogant, bizarre and warrior King. Do people smell summer?
I smell swampy morning. Sun penetrates through thick swamp oak forest. Sun king riding his best horse, hunting with dogs. Horse trampling rotten plums and apples from the trees, while chasing already wounded deer. Do people smell suncream?
I smell old cognac and candied fruits in the forest cottage waiting for the sun king to refresh.
Remember? King loveeeed perfumery, insisting on having his shirts perfumed with something called ‘Aqua Angeli’, composed of aloes-wood, nutmeg, storax, cloves and benzoin, boiled in rosewater ‘of a quantity as may cover four fingers’. It was simmered for a day and night with jasmine and orange flower water and a few grains of musk were added. Like some kind of early fabric conditioner, it was used to rinse Louis’s shirts.
When I smell this perfume I hear music from
Jean-Baptiste Lully. Dear hell how I love his work: "Les plaisirs ont choisi pour asile
ce séjour agréable et tranquille,
que ces lieux sont charmants
pour les heureux amants!"
Incredible! The top notes are Fruity Notes, African Orange Flower, Palisander Rosewood, Amalfi Lemon, Cassis and Bergamot;
What fruit? Peelings of different fruits. What do I smell? Apples, Peach, Plum, Grapes. Opening like a perfectly settled breakfast table full of fruit. Ripe. Floating in the air. Surrounded with African orange flowers decorating the table. The strength of this bizarre and pompose opening is the deepness of Palisander rosewood. Woody, velvety, exotic, floral, fresh. - Its unique undertones are both floral and fruity—comparable to the soft scent of freesia. This smell itself you can never forget. Then the fresh green notes Cassis walks in dancing all over the air, foolishly introducing lemon and Bergamot! These top notes of the Sun can easily be separate fragrance itself. Like many modern ones. Few notes! But this is better. Stronger. More brave. More character.
But it doesn't end here.
How could that be the end?
Not at the Versailles. Because after his breakfast the Sun King wants his new day scent. Oh yes!
Middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Heliotrope, Carnation, Orris Root, Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley; My oh my... Look at those flowers.
What Does Ylang Ylang Smell Like? The unique and powerful ylang-ylang is dreamy and romantic, featuring floral notes nuanced with aspects of creamy, balsamic and powdery custard, intoxicating jasmine, sweet, slightly pungent banana, light and bitter neroli and sensual, sugary honey.
Do you smell the licorice? Yes? That's not liquorice. It's Heliotrope with warm delicate powdery floral, vanilla and marzipan notes and a trace of spicy liquorice.
It's not over yet. Carnation. Carnation is often described as spicy, clove-like, or reminiscent of a combination of cinnamon and nutmeg.
No. The SuKingng wants more!
He wants roses!
He wants Lily of the Valley!
Parfumer adds Orris's root to please the King more.
That's it. The heart of perfume explodes into an elixir of nature, the perfect mélange of wonderful and powerful flowers! Carried on orris root that has a buttery-soft, smooth and skin-like scent. Its powdery aroma is undeniable and can also be reminiscent of freshly baked bread. While Top notes blow, now and then through the door over Middle notes into Base notes.
That's called mastery perfumery.
Base notes are Vanille, Benzoin, Amber, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Musk, Styrax, Tobacco Leaf and Patchouli!
The Sun King’ loved to experiment with new scents. Yet in his last years, he was totally obsessed with orange blossoms. Check his Orangerie. What a magnificent place. Since the Base notes definitely start with vanilla, let me add that Sun King loved vanilla and the one of great quality. His mistress, Madame de Montespan, bathed in water scented with vanilla! This scent has a good quality strong vanilla base, supported by other very nice notes. Indicating extraordinary great dry-down-lasting and silage.
What else can you expect if you get these Base notes?
Benzoin offers distinctly rich scents of woody, sweet vanilla. Its layered composition unfolds in warm, honeyed facets not dissimilar to caramel, almond or freshly roasted coffee. Subtle floral notes awaken slight nuances of carnations in soft, wispy or even powdery tones.
Amber is fossilized tree resin, often from pine trees, that has undergone changes over millions of years. However, the amber scent we know from perfumery, while it can carry hints of pine, is much more complex, blending sweet, earthy, and even spicy notes.
Tonka bean scent is a multifaceted scent with layers of vanilla, tobacco, almond, and wood, with scents of gingerbread and pistachio.
Sandalwood has a deep, creamy sweetness with warm undertones of amber, leather and wood, which comes from the component santol.
Musk is a warm subtle scent defined by a complex range of powdery, sweet, woodsy and earthy aroma impressions. Fruity or floral undertones can also be detected depending on the musk.
Styrax is a type of fragrant resin that boasts warm and balsamic notes in perfumes. It is characterized by sweet, vanilla-like undertones and a touch of leather, smokey and exotic woodiness.
Tobacco leaf is Warm, honey-like, sweet, and aromatic. A rich, aromatic note often likened to the scent of freshly cut hay.
Patchouli has an earthy, woody, musky scent known for its intoxicatingly rich bouquet. It is unique, yet its sensual, woody, ambery, and distinct character allows for multiple accords.
Still, think this fragrance mastery is a sun cream? While we can make at least 3 fragrances out of this one fragrance. Can you do that with the sun cream?
If you overreact this composition will slap your face. It's way too strong and fresh to play around with. Don't play with Sun King. This is also a spiritualty male scent, made for the mistress of the king. Means a female scent! It is eternal. Timeless. It has no seasons. Every serious master scent is to be worn whenever and wherever you wish.
It was insulted and reformulated at least twice. Still fighting revolutionary attempts of communists to break it, thinking they can imprison the Sun King? They can't. He wears the crown pungent, but only a little wild and Animalian. I really like this somehow calm and powdery eroticism! Provocative one.
Yep. The dry-down after-sex luxury. While Sun King is entertaining by singing:
"Quand l'Amour à vos yeux offre un choix agréable,
Jeunes beautez, laissez-vous enflamer :
Mocquez-vous d'affecter cet orgueil indomptable
Dont on vous dit qu'il est beau de s'armer :
Dans l'age ou l'on est aymable
Rien n'est si beau que d'aymer."
That's what the Sun is.
