Govt. Ron DeSantis has no trouble saying what he thinks when he thinks it is necessary, or even sometimes when it is not. He now has a clear opportunity to use his voice forcefully in public service to all of Florida’s people.
He should tell the fringe of his Republican base to sit down, shut up and come over to the children’s table.
Choke, pull yourself together, and take a ride on the reality train.
He could do everyone – Republicans, Democrats and Independents – by cutting down the unnecessary, unnecessary and downright crazy idea of an “independent” audit of the Florida elections in 2020.
The governor himself praised the smooth running of this statewide election, and he rightly bragged about it. Florida, we know, hasn’t always been able to pull off a winning lap on the way they run elections.
That’s not good enough in the weird world of Lake County, however. These people apparently won’t be happy until Republicans win every $ 20 million election.
The Orlando Sentry reported that the Lake County Republican Executive Committee passed a resolution calling for the audit. The group affirms that “a majority of citizens doubt that the elections of November 3, 2020 were held in an open and fair manner”.
No, the majority of the tin foil hats crowd thinks so, but keep going.
The committee said people “doubted that the number of legal votes cast for each candidate would equal the reported and certified results in Lake County, the state of Florida and the United States.”
Oh, hey, it’s okay.
The committee “demands” that the legislature conduct an “immediate, open, transparent and independent full forensic audit, including a manual recount” of Lake County and the state as a whole.
I would demand that these people, oh, whatever.
representing Antoine Sabatini is at heart of this farce. The Bart Simpson of GOP politics started this push by tabling an audit bill in the House because… oh, who knows what’s going on in his head. Nothing valid, I suggest.
Sabatini represents Lake County in the legislature and has announced a plan to run for Congress. Yes, we need more of his kind in Washington because chaos and belligerence are great ways to govern.
So far, the “demand” has been met mainly by the silence of GOP leaders. We need more, however, and DeSantis is the perfect person to deliver that message.
He could flash some of his famous impatience. DeSantis could warn the mad fringe of his party that he has no tolerance for garbage.
Yeah, that might upset those on the far right, but that’s fine with me. Plus, there is an advantage to be explored. Healthy Republicans might find they don’t have to play with this junk.
Sabatini acts like he’s back in college trying to rig the student council vote, and it has to stop.
It’s time for DeSantis to be the adult in the room.
