CARSON CITY (KTNV) – Today Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak released the following statement regarding Assembly Bill 484, which would allocate federal funds to the Job Security Division of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) for an upgrade of the unemployment insurance system.
“Throughout the pandemic, Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) employees have worked to connect eligible Nevadans to their benefits amid historic claim levels and pressure without precedent on the outdated Unemployment Insurance (UI) system. This is why in my speech on the state of the state and in the Every Nevadan Recovery FrameI have made the modernization of DETR’s unemployment insurance system a top priority so that our state has the right tools to get benefits quickly and to detect and prevent fraud.
Assembly Bill 484 would use eligible federal dollars to help give DETR the system they need to serve Nevadans well through the good and the toughest times. I look forward to passing this crucial legislation that will create a more resilient Nevada for our residents and thank the Legislature for its partnership in bringing this vision to life.
