Liverpool entered the top four in the Premier League table last night, beating Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.
The Reds saw Leicester City lose to Chelsea on Tuesday night, so they knew a win would send them to the Champions League places.
Jurgen Klopp’s men responded with a comfortable win, with Roberto Firmino opening the scoring in the first half.
Nat Phillips added a second after the break, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming off the bench to win a third.
This means that the fate of Liverpool is now in their own hands; a win over Crystal Palace on the final day will seal a Champions League place that seemed highly unlikely not so long ago.
Last night’s win was a big win, and Phillips earned huge praise after racking up nine clearances, nine overheads won, two blocked shots, two tackles won… oh, and the goal.
The defender was called ‘colossal’ by Liverpool’s official Twitter account, and Jordan Henderson joined in the praise.
Henderson has suggested that Phillips has been ‘brilliant’ all season long and truly deserves his first Premier League goal, with the defender becoming an unlikely favorite this season.
