Neon Line District Agreement challenges Reno City Council members

RENO, Nevada (KOLO) -RENO, Nevada (KOLO) – Today, Reno City Council met and discussed the latest development agreement for the Neon Line District. Council members were quick to ask questions of representatives.

This neighborhood is bounded by Keystone Avenue West and West Fifth Street to the north, east and south.

A major concern of the board was Jacob Entertainment’s lack of public involvement in the construction plans. This is one of the largest constructions Reno will potentially see, and from comments from council members to overtime limits, city council discussed the single agenda item for nearly three hours.

Councilor Jenny Brekhus has expressed her opinion on several occasions,

“I am not asking anyone from the public to meet with me. You don’t have to come and kiss my ring, you don’t have to be my friend, but I want to see our City Manager help us make the best possible decision to make the most informed decisions for the public good. than we can, ”said Brekhus.

The motion was passed with an initial motion from Councilor Jardon. A benchmark of units must be built within the next twelve months or the contract will be shredded.

Councilor Naomi Duerr shared her thoughts on the deal,

“At this point, there are no clear benchmarks for this agreement. It’s a deal. These are not nice people, I deal with nice people all the time. At the end of the day, it’s about the agreement and the words that are in the agreement. This is what we hold them accountable for. We detain them, they detain us, ”said Duerr.

Jacob’s and its representatives are also required to meet with the community to better inform them of these upcoming developments.
