Nevada Legislative Building revising mask regulations

Lawmakers, staff and others in the Nevada Legislative Building who are fully vaccinated may choose to wear a mask and socially distance themselves in the Legislative Building, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the director of the Office of the Counselors. Legislative, Brenda Erdoes.

Starting Thursday, the Legislative Building will be open to anyone without reservations or appointments after obtaining a badge. To get a badge, a person must prove they are fully vaccinated or demonstrate a negative COVID-19 test, the statement said.

Unvaccinated building personnel are still required to wear a mask in any public area of the building, but may remove the mask in an office with the door closed.

The tests will continue to be available free of charge in the mobile tents on 6th Street across from the Carson City Legislative Building. Masks will also be provided free of charge to visitors to the Legislative Building who are not fully vaccinated.

In a joint statement, Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson, D-Las Vegas and Minority Leader Robin Titus, R-Wellington, welcomed the decision.

“The LCB began work on adjusting the mask policy immediately after the CDC updated its policy,” the joint statement read. “We are pleased that conditions have improved as long as the mask’s mandate can be lifted and we hope that the last 12 days of this legislative session will be one more step towards the normalcy that we all miss. We urge those who have not been vaccinated to act responsibly by taking action appropriate to their personal situation and state of health. “

The Legislative Building was opened to the public on a limited basis last month. The legislative session is scheduled to end on May 31 at midnight.
