Nevada to face UC Irvine at Stanford Regional

RENO, Nevada (KOLO) The Nevada baseball team is heading to Stanford as the No. 3 seed for the NCAA regionals. The Wolf Pack will face No.2 seed UC Irvine in Game One this Friday, June 4 at 6 p.m. PT.

This will be the Wolf Pack’s fifth overall trip to the NCAA Regionals in program history and its first since 2000. Nevada‘s history in the NCAA Regionals includes 2000, 1999, 1997 and 1994. The Pack also has a history of playing in the Stanford Regional as his last two trips to the regions in 2000 and 1999 were at Stanford.

Nevada finished the regular season with a 25-18 overall record and a 22-9 rating in Mountain West’s game. The Wolf Pack clinched their berth in the NCAA Regional Championships after winning their third regular season title from Mountain West on Friday night. The Silver & Blue are red as they approach the regions as they finished the regular season by winning 15 straight conference games dating back to April 24.

During the Pack’s race to a Mountain West Championship, the team was on fire in attack. In their recent 15-0 conference streak, Nevada compiled a .391 batting average and beat opponents 162-69. On the mound during this stretch, the pitching staff recorded a team ERA of 4.61 and hold opposing hitters to a batting average of just .275. Overall this season, Nevada ranks in the top five nationally in a few statistical categories, including batting average (0.319), doubles per game (2.43), doubles per game (1, 02) and the slugging percentage (0.533).

Individually for Wolf Pack junior red jersey infielder Tyler Bosetti set an NCAA record earlier in May with nine straight games with a home run. Bosetti is also one of the national leaders in doubles and doubles per game as he has hit 22 two baggers in 43 games this season. Senior redshirt Dillan Shrum has also garnered national attention as he currently leads the nation throughout the regular season hitting .479 in his 33 games played. Shrum soared through the tour leader list and finished the regular season with 15 home runs, leading the Mountain West.
