HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Police have arrested a fourth person in an alleged conspiracy to smuggle drugs and other contraband into Henderson County Jail.
Deputy Jason Evans, 47, was arrested after he allegedly accepted money to smuggle a package containing around 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 113 grams of tobacco into jail in July. Investigators say Evans agreed to call a phone number and make arrangements to collect the package.
Police say Evans was ordered to turn the package over to Colby Pruitt, 30, and Charles Stewart, 32, both of whom were being held at Henderson County Jail. All three were arrested after the interception of the package and the establishment of a controlled delivery.
Authorities say the man who delivered the package was Richard Stewart, 61. Richard Stewart was arrested in the 900 block of Powell Street on Saturday after a possible trespassing complaint.
Richard Stewart, Colby Pruitt and Charles Stewart face charges of trafficking in controlled substances and promoting contraband. Richard Stewart was also charged with a parole violation warrant. Deputy Evans has been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
Police said the investigation was still ongoing and other detainees would be involved.
