Utah couple charged with transporting guns and drugs from Las Vegas to Roosevelt

ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt couple were charged Monday with illegally transporting firearms and drugs in a stolen trailer from Las Vegas to Utah.

Jason Bret Ford, 41, is charged in 8th District Court with seven counts of restricted access firearm transaction, drug distribution and theft, second-degree felonies; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor. Jamie Ilene Ford, 39, is charged with seven counts of possession of a firearm by a person with restricted access, a felony in the third degree ; distribution and theft of drugs, second degree crimes; DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.

On May 4, members of the Uintah Basin Narcotics Strike Force, in conjunction with federal agents and other local law enforcement agencies, were tipped off that Jason Ford was transporting firearms and drugs from Las Vegas to the area. of Roosevelt, according to a police reservation affidavit. Investigators monitored Ford and followed him as he drove on US 191 to Duchesne.

An officer spotted Ford’s truck carrying a trailer shortly after entering Duchesne and stopped the vehicle for not having a license plate or working taillights on the trailer, the affidavit states.

After the truck stopped, adult probation and parole officers stopped Ford while others spoke to the driver, Jamie Ford.

“During our conversation, she was restless and had involuntary muscle movements and difficulty with her major motor skills, which indicates to me the influence of illicit drugs, primarily methamphetamine, the officer wrote. stopped. “She admitted that they had three pounds of methamphetamine in the truck behind the back seat. She also indicated that there were guns in the vehicle as well.”

The trailer was listed stolen in Las Vegas, the affidavit states. A search warrant was obtained and officers said they found methamphetamine in the vehicle along with “large sums of cash” and drug paraphernalia.

“Inside the cabin, in the rear seat area, we also found two shotguns and one shotgun in holsters; in a bag we found two semi-automatic pistols, one with a silencer,” according to the affidavit. “Located in a holdall in the bed of the truck was a side-sawn shotgun and a pistol-grip semi-automatic rifle and more ammunition.”

Loaded magazines were also seized, according to police. Both Fords were sentenced to Duchesne County Jail.
