A message from former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden earlier in the season was still on Derek Carr’s mind on Thanksgiving Day.

The message was simple: “be aggressive”.

Carr was aggressive in the Raiders’ 36-33 win over the Cowboys behind Daniel Carlson’s winning 29-yard field goal in overtime.

“Gruden used to tell me ‘don’t take your arm out of the game’,” Carr said. “‘When we call these things, let’s tear them up.’ We’ve seen some things about the movie that will hopefully get us some looks and one-on-one on the pitch. We were able to find some of them on an explosive day. (Cowboys) don’t give up a lot of them. We performed at such a high standard.

Carr finished the game completing 24 of 39 for 373 yards and a touchdown for a 101.8 quarterback. The Raiders are now 5-0 when Carr throws over 300 yards.

He also became the first quarterback in Raiders history to pass 30,000 yards.

Las Vegas improved to 6-5 after dropping three straight games in what was a must-see to keep their playoff hopes alive in a tight AFC race.

Even Carr couldn’t expire in the game in which the Raiders led by up to 11 points in the third quarter after a one-yard run from Marcus Mariota.

But the Cowboys continued to retreat before leveling the game after a touchdown and a two-point conversion to send the game into overtime.

The Raiders’ defense has done its part by forcing the Cowboys into overtime.

Las Vegas took over and used a pass inference call on the Cowboys to put the Raiders on the Dallas 24-yard line. Three games later which included three penalties, Carlson scored the field goal to give the victory to the Raiders.

“I can’t breathe out in the game, especially with this one today how tight it was,” Carr said. “I can’t breathe out. Win or lose, whether it’s good or bad, I have to stay in the moment.

Great moment in the game

DeSean Jackson notched his first touchdown as a Raider when he caught a 56-yard pass from Carr for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

Jackson told Rich Bisaccia after the game he was happy to contribute.

“It’s fun to throw the ball at him,” Carr said. “We played this game and it’s exciting. It’s obviously exciting for him to see how his first capture went on his debut with Raider (fumble). He came big for us on crucial descents and distances. “
